Ivan Lambov Enchev was born on 1 August 1961 in the oldest town of our planet – Stara Zagora (with 8000 year’s history, according to the archaeological sources). Disabled by birth – with children’s cerebral paralysis, deaf-an-dumb. Pensioner for health reasons. He was brought up at home and he never attended any nurseries or schools. He is uneducated yet not illiterate. He knows the letters, reads some of them, and even writes down separate words but with much effort. He, however, can calculate, doing some arithmetic actions with enormous numbers for amazingly short time. He “speaks” with those around him in his own language – with gestures, mimics, sounds, worked out in the years. He doesn’t know the language of the deaf-an-dumb.
The other reality
Ivan is radiant and sociable; he is compassionate to other people. He has keen interest to everything happening around him. He possesses a good sense of humour. He plays well chest and other similar games. He rides bicycle, no matter how amazing this might seem, regarding his condition. One of his greatest pains in the years is his unemployment, because he wants very much to be like all others – to be among the people, to work, to receive honestly earned remuneration. All attempts in this aspect have ended discouragingly. … until one light summer day – 12 July 1999 when he woke with the sense that he was given the gift to transfer messages from Higher worlds. This is how he found his vocation. In the beginning he dreamed, later he became able to fall within this state of free roaming in amazing, yet completely real according to him, light worlds. Despite his heavy invalidization (he hardly holds a glass to drink water), he began to depict the worlds he visited. He never devises anything himself. He waits to be told “from above” what to paint, what colours to use. He has many projects started, waiting their order to receive a divine green signal to be completed. Finally Ivan has found his own way to communicate with the world, speaking to us in colours and magnificently selected nuances. The pictures literally pour out of his hands every day – one by one. And this surprises us and we are glad because each next picture proves that these are not some fabricated scrawls – this is strictly controlled and arranged information, bearing specific contemporary messages. More than 340 complete pictures came out of Ivan’s clumsy hands. Specialists mention the good sense of the self-taught artists to the colours and their splendid composition. Most of the messages are conveyed by the sparkling divine yellow colour and the Eye – Ivan constantly points as a centre of his perceptions the spot between his eye-brows – the Third eye. Brought up by atheists, he assures us over and over again that “There is God”. He says that his drawing plots come to him in his dreams and perhaps he is right because he wakes up very happy and excited and he starts painting on the moment. Sometimes he paints when he wakes up at night. In many of his pictures along with the eye he also draws a heart enveloped in radiant light – the all-seeing eye and a heart for love. This is how we gradually understood that the pictures of the uneducated Ivan are messages for more love and harmony among the people. In one of his pictures he has drawn the Bulgarian flag, a spiral and the eye – every Bulgarian should see this picture. It amazes with its symbolic suggestion that Bulgaria would be a spiritual creditor of the world. Another one shows the path to God – there is one straight direct path and one long, meandering path. Ivan explains that in order to reach God we have to walk along the long path. All pictures captivate, they impress and speak. They are radiant and exciting. They are messages for love and more people should see them. We called Ivan’s works BAGANDAT which in Old Bulgarian means blessing, God’s gift. Bagandat are healing messages from higher worlds, bearing huge power charge. Bagandat is a kind of parallel reality which can’t be seen by many people or, they have rather lost their ability to discern it. That is why the effect of the pictures is stimulating for those people, it is also releasing and recreating. Some of them cry, others rejoice and want to have them at home …. It wouldn’t be a great discovery if we notice that similar nuances and compositions are contained in the century-old Bulgarian folk art – traditional costumes, rugs from the Rhodope region, embroideries. … Only that Ivan has never learnt, read or seen that. It comes from inside him and makes him pure, unburdened with the prejudices of the “healthy” people, an exponent of spiritual messages. The very messages are real, but much work should be done for their description, interpretation, introducing to the wide audience – a perfect vocation for adherents of the spiritual.
